The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is about trying new things and proving what you're capable of outside of school. Designed for anyone aged 14 to 24, it’s a self-paced challenge split into three levels—Bronze, Silver, and Gold. To complete it, you pick a skill to learn, a sport or activity to get fitter at, a local cause to volunteer for, and top it off by trekking and camping in the wild with a small team on an expedition. It matters because it gets you out of your comfort zone, builds real self-confidence, and teaches you how to bounce back when things don't go to plan. Plus, having it on your CV or university application is a massive bonus—employers and admissions teams love seeing it because it proves you actually stick with things, work well in a team, and have real-world resilience.
